David writes: The Fish was my attempt to write something in the style of Lewis Carroll or Edward Lear, with a little bit of Kenneth Grahame thrown in. When I read it to my high school creative writing class, everyone tried to analyze it. "It's full of sexual imagery, the fish are sybolic of sperm." "The fish is the symbol of Jesus" Blah Blah Blah. Then my friend Gracie Zaffarano said, "To me it just sounds like Alice in Wonderland." Thank you.

Adam writes: This is one of the very first songs that Dave and I collaborated on. As young as we were when we wrote this, it still holds up as a stylish song with a great hook (get it? fish ... hook?). All the while it still captures the boundless imagination of youth.

for the trifles I had bought

"Well, can you prove substantially
that I am not a fish?"
"I'm not so sure that I can."
Replied the silver dish

The dish was laden with lovely things
Foods to please the eye
And the more I think of eating some
The more I start to cry
and I cry...

"Why the tears my lad?"
Asked a turquoise albatross
"Is there anything worth gaining
That's greater than the loss?"
