Interesting Times

about

I was underwhelmed with my composition for the week's SongFIght at first but it has grown on me. It's an upbeat anthem about terrorism and religious brainwashing. It is now undeniable that I have a sardonic and pessimistic view of the world that comes out most clearly in my lyrics.

I took second place. I'm pretty proud of that as I didn't even vote for myself or get too involved on the discussion board. I like the song I wrote -- not crazy about it -- but I accomplished what I set out to do. I wanted to see if I still "had it" and if I could write a song on bass and I've been pushing myself to write lyrics in a more impulsive and less literal manner. If that translates to a Silver then I'm perfectly pleased. Favorite comment on my entry: YES! I love it! You need to submit more often!

lyrics

In his quarters he got the orders
And headed into town
He'll be a hero, just count to zero
He won't let anyone down

In the wreckage he sent the message
And headed on his way
He's better dead, he'll check his schedule
What's another day

Reggie must be loving it
Making lemons out of limes
Reggie knows nothing if
Interesting times

She praised the cow and took her vow
and never spoke a word
Evermore, the greatest story
no one ever heard

Lucia now takes slumber with
the sympathetic mimes
Lucia now know nothing if
Interesting times

What's another day?
What's another day gone by?
What's the perfect crime?
Living in these interesting times.

The clock tower never lies
The bell it always chimes
Now we know nothing if
Interesting times
